Fine matcha. Warm water. Five quiet minutes.
The classic bowl is less about ceremony for ceremony’s sake and more about precision: good tea, the right water temperature and a whisk that keeps the texture clean.
Ceremonial Hot Matcha

Warm the bowl first.
Swirl a little hot water around the bowl, then pour it away and dry completely. A warm bowl helps the matcha stay comfortable while you whisk.

Remove the clumps before water arrives.
Pass 2 g ceremonial matcha through a fine sieve. Sifting takes seconds and makes the finished texture noticeably silkier.

Move quickly, but lightly.
Let freshly boiled water cool to roughly 70–80°C. Add 60–70 ml, then whisk in a loose W motion, lifting through the liquid instead of scraping the base.

Stop when the foam turns fine.
When the surface is covered with a fine, even foam, slow down and lift the whisk from the centre. Drink as it is, or add a small splash of warm milk for a softer everyday bowl.
Temperature changes the cup.
Water that is too hot can make matcha taste harsher. A slightly cooler pour helps protect its gentle sweetness, savoury depth and vivid colour.
